Brent O'Mara,
AIF®, CFS®

Co-Founder & Senior Wealth Advisor · Omaha, Nebraska

I have spent my entire career at one firm, in one city, doing one thing: helping families and professionals in Omaha make sense of their money. I joined in May of 2000 as a wealth advisor. It was the first job I had in this industry, and I never went looking for another one.

Twenty-six years,
one firm.

I joined the firm in May of 2000. It was my first position in the industry, and I have often said the same thing about it since: wow, did that work out. I landed my dream job the first time. How many people can say that?

What I do day to day has not changed much. I manage and monitor client portfolios, and I sit down with people regularly to adjust the plan as their lives change — because they always do. Some of the families I work with now, I have worked with for two decades. I have watched their children grow up and start asking me the same questions their parents asked me in 2003.

The part I find most satisfying is not the obvious part. It is the situation that does not have a clean answer — where the textbook approach does not fit and you have to build something specific to the person in front of you. That is the work I want to be doing.

after my name mean.

Credentials in this industry are easy to collect and hard to interpret, so here is plainly what mine are.

AIF®

Accredited Investment Fiduciary

Training in fiduciary standards of care: what it actually means to be obligated to act in someone else's interest, and how that obligation is documented and demonstrated rather than just claimed.

CFS®

Certified Fund Specialist

One of the older specialist designations in the field, focused on the analysis and selection of funds and portfolio construction. I earned it through the Institute of Business and Finance, where I have been a member since 2005.

66

Series 66

The combined securities and investment adviser representative examination.

NE

Life & annuities

Licensed for life and annuities in Nebraska.

Swing
for Charity.

I chair Swing for Charity, which has raised more than $311,000 to date.

The money has gone to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, the American Heart Association, Angels Among Us, and PlaySmart. I also support the HOPE Center and causes working on muscular dystrophy.

Omaha is not a big city. The organisations doing this work are run by people you see at the grocery store, and the money stays here. That is most of why I do it.

Away from
the desk.

My wife Erin and I have three children: Wyatt, Quinn, and Sloane. When I am not working I am usually hunting, fishing, or on a golf course — with mixed results on the last one.
